The design is beautiful, compact, and lightweight, although I would have preferred the laptop battery would not stick out from the back and stay within the dimensions of the design; one special thing about the battery is that it is a nine cell battery it lasts for hours, with the right settings it estimated that I could run for a maximum of five hours. The 15.4″ screen works as good as it looks; it has a 1280×800 maximum screen resolution. The graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon(tm) HD 2600, with 512MB GDDR3 of dedicated Video Memory. The deal with GDDR3 is that it has a lower voltage requirement, thereby reducing the amount of power consumed by the graphics card.
The computer has three USB ports, an HDMI port, Ethernet and phone connector, CD/Dual Layer DVD±RW / DVD-RAM, 5-in-1 Media Card reader, one 54-Express Card Slot, Wireless(including the recently released N-wireless which offers a better wireless experience) and Bluetooth connections . My only wish is that it would have more USB ports because I already have one in use by my wireless mouse, one can run out of USB ports very quickly with the flash drives and/or connecting other devices like a phone to transfer files.
More into the laptop, it has a media panel from which you can launch the media center to play DVD’s, music, and control Windows Media player. You can even program the buttons to work with other media applications, for instance I programmed them to work with Winamp. The volume control is like a touchpad and you just slide your finger either right or left to raise it or lower it respectively. The actual touchpad has a dedicated vertical scrolling area which is a nice feature because not all laptops have it. The mouse keys have a left and right click but no middle click, which would be useful for scrolling though web pages faster.
The fingerprint reader is awesome once you get it working. You can enroll all of your fingers in case or injury you still have the other nine left. The fingerprint reader could be used to log on to windows although I would not recommend doing that because if you are in a hurry you will most likely swipe your finger too fast and get an error message. Besides from the log on you can use it to restrict access to certain applications, password protect files, and even use your fingerprints to log on to websites once you register them. I must warn you that learning to swipe your finger(s) properly takes some time and much practice so it is suggested that you practice using the tutorial included.
Using the laptop one can notice that the 2.4GHz Core Duo Processor and the 4GB of RAM deliver speed and outstanding performance. For instance I was running Adobe Photoshop while working on an image, one folder open, using Google Earth, playing music, and instant messaging, and I experienced no lag at all. I have not used this computer for gaming as it is the computer I will take to college this fall, but I will as soon as I have the opportunity I will test its performance when playing video games.
