Never follow the quick start guide when setting up wireless connection. When I tried this printer on a vista machine, the machine is printing for about 30 minutes then it suddenly went offline. Some HP imaging device monitor is unable to detect this device and refused to operate. After an hour, I realized that when I restarted everything, the IP address of the printer changed so better watch out for that mistake.
Here’s the best way to set up the HP Officejet J6480:
 Don’t use the setup CD, instead use the setup network from the machine menu.
 When it’s connected, go to the router configuration menu and save the IP address for the machine so that it’ll use the same IP address all the time
 Install the driver to the hardware. You can try copying the setup CD to speed up the installation.
 Run setup.exe then select ‘add a device’ by the network. The printer should be detected by the setup program and by this time, you should be able to work freely and experience the joys of printing with high quality performance from your HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer
